New ASHRAE Standard Guides Designers in Moisture Control

Atlanta – Moisture and mould don’t make the headlines the way they once did, but there are still problems in some structures. Guidance on how to best design buildings with adequate moisture control features is contained in a new standard from ASHRAE.

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 160, Criteria for Moisture Design Analysis in Buildings, formulates design assumptions for moisture design analysis and criteria for acceptable performance.

“If the designer elects to perform a design moisture analysis, the standard requires he or she think about the interior conditions that will be maintained in the building, and the effect that may have on building envelopes,” Anton TenWolde, chair of the committee that wrote the standard, said. “The standard provides a methodology for the first time to make consistent design recommendations, such as the need, type, and placement of vapour barriers in any climate.”

The standard introduces criteria to handle rain, wind, and other exterior moisture weather loads. The cost of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 160-2009, Criteria for Moisture-Control Design Analysis in Buildings, is $39 ($33, ASHRAE members).

HVACR Indonesia 2009 By ASHRAE Indonesia & IIR Exhibitions

IIR Exhibitions Pte Ltd has entered into a joint organization project with the ASHRAE Indonesia chapter to bring the latest and most innovative technologies to the HVACR Indonesia show held this year.

Between the period of 19 and 21 November, a dynamic platform will be created in Jakarta as new technologies will focus on energy and cost savings within the HVAC & R industry. This will create an opportunity for the ASHRAE members of this south-eastern Pacific nation to network and congregate with the HVACR industry players of Indonesia and beyond. Business with vested interest within the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, air- purification and purification industries should take note of developments that will come out of this event.

The HVACR Indonesia 2009 exhibition will increase market share in one of the most dynamically growing economies, provide access to the buoyant opportunities offered by the Indonesian infrastructure project developments and create valuable new business to
stimulate the Indonesian economy through domestic and multi-national partnerships being forged between
the immediate decision-making authorities.

Through a focus on new products that are energy and cost efficient, the processes between buyers and sellers will significantly be accelerated as companies will be provided the opportunity to create brand awareness, locate new agents and distributors and meet the high profiled and established Indonesian industry.

Should any interest be gained, it would be worthwhile to visit www.iirx.com.sg for more information on ASHRAE Indonesia, the joint organization between
ASHRAE Indonesia and IIR Exhibitions
or how to be a part of the HVACR Indonesia 2009 experience. ◊
