Mines seeking to cut costs by protecting plant against abrasion should not only introduce polyurethane linings, but also carry out tests to determine life cycle costs. This is according to Trevor Carolin, CEO of Urethane Moulded Products (UMP), a company that has invested extensively in advanced technology over the years, allowing it to manufacture hardwearing polyurethane products with proven life-cycle cost advantages. Its range of protective chute linings is branded Armadillo, sheets of which can be installed as a chute liner or fabricated as a drop in liner for ease of replacement. The company also supplies sheeting to customers to carry out the linings. Carolin claims that Armadillo liners, undergoing tests at a large coal mine in Mpumalanga, are delivering a life-cycle cost advantage of at least 30 percent. “Other liners replaced by Armadillo were lasting only three months, but the UMP product has already outlasted them with no sign of imminent failure.” For more information contact: Tel: +27 (0)11 452-1000 • Fax: +27 (0)11 609-6477 E-mail: trevor@ump.co.za ◊
